Student Portraits
Having worked in education for longer that I can remember, I’ve seen many assignments marked student portrait. With these time is usually constrained, we often pick a location on the spot and lighting can be a challenge. That being said, these are some of my favorite assignments to shoot.
L'Arche Chicago
Spent some time with the good people at the L'Arche Chicago integrated homes this week. We documented life, told stories, talked about peoples favorite things (mine was dogs of course) and did some on the spot portraits.
Welding Merit
I recently spent some time with a group of Boy Scouts who were learning the art of welding. I always get excited to cover such assignments for a few reasons:
A: The challenge, If you have ever worn a welding helmet you know. Things go dark.. Yes, the photographer wears one too.
B: Interest: I personally love this kind of environment. Shops, works sites, anything hands on. I spend most of my free time in my garage working on cars, go karts, lawn mowers or anything in my life that needs a little upgrade or fixin. It’s my happy place.
C: The people: People in this realm just seem a bit more of maybe my kind, connectable and down to earth. Also, I usually come away with learning something that I can use down the road.
